The external ear is the external auditory canal is approximately 2.5 cm long. External auditory meatus is slightly curved canal of about 2.5 cm ling extending from floor of concha to tympanic membrane (ear drum). The middle and inner parts of the ear are located in hollow cavities on either side of the head within the temporal bones of the skull.

For this reason, the ear is known as the vestibulocochlear organ.
